Flat Tire Service, Explained
A flat tire on a shoulder is one of the more dangerous places to be, which is why the first thing our dispatcher does is confirm where you are stopped. If you are on the traffic side of a highway, we will tell you to stay in the vehicle with your seatbelt on and hazards flashing rather than standing next to the car. Moving to the far side of a guardrail is safer than standing beside a wheel while traffic passes at seventy miles an hour.
Our technicians install your spare, whether that is a full size wheel or a temporary donut. If your spare is missing, flat, or the vehicle never came with one, that changes the plan, so we ask up front. Many newer cars ship with a sealant kit instead of a spare, and sealant will not fix a sidewall cut or a tire that came off the bead.
Spare tire limits worth knowing
A temporary spare is rated for roughly fifty miles at fifty miles per hour. It is meant to get you to a tire shop, not through a weekend of driving. Plan on replacing or repairing the damaged tire within a day or two.
When you need a tow instead
Two flats, a bent wheel, a damaged hub, or no usable spare all mean the car needs transport. Our dispatcher will catch that during the intake call and quote the tow instead, so you are not paying for a tire change that cannot be completed.
What it costs
Tire changes are flat rated and shown before you confirm the booking. If you also need the flat taken to a shop, we will quote that as a separate tow with the mileage included.
